Wireless Networking: Services & Support

Service Expectations
The wireless network is a technological tool for faculty and staff. It is intended to supplement the wired network and for use with portable electronic devices. The wireless network should not serve as a user’s sole connection to the University network or IT Resources. The wireless network will not provide the same quality of service as the University’s wired network. Faculty and staff should use the University’s wired network when reliability and performance are critical. Stationary computing devices such as PC towers, laptops and docking stations (for primary usage), printers, and other critical IT resources such as research equipment must be connected to UW-Milwaukee’s wired network whenever possible.

Support Expectations
The support of wireless connections over ProwlNet is limited to the same restrictions as those of wired systems covered by IT Support. Personal systems of faculty, staff and students are not supported by BATO IT Support. Please contact the I&MT Help Desk at extension 4040 for connection issues related to these types of devices. Network resource assistance is fully supported over the wired network; however, network resource support over wireless may be limited.
