Welcome to the Urban Salon

On each page of the Urban Salon, the artwork pieces at the left are from cultures around the world. At the bottom of each page is information on the item (s).

Urban: Relating to, characteristics of, or constituting a city.

Salon: A fashionable assembly of notables (such as literary figures, artists, or statesmen) held by custom at the home of a prominent person.

The purpose of the Urban Salon is to hold conversations about important issues related to urban schooling.  Our goal is to focus these conversations on issues that relate specifically to teaching and learning in urban schools rather than general issues in education.  Our concept of "notable figures" is not limited to individuals who are well-known for their work nationally, but rather to draw on those who know urban schools well from the ground up: teachers and students and family members of students who attend urban schools.  Stay tuned for more on our conversations...
